LAWSAN AAU Honours Lucky Eseigbe as Legal Icon addressing students to Redefine Excellence.
The need for enhanced academic excellence, intellectual competence and ethical responsibility has been stressed at the 2026 Distinguished Lecture of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), Faculty of Law, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma. The lecture, held as part of the Association’s 2026 Law Week activities, was delivered by Sir Lucky Eseigbe, Esq., a lawyer, public administrator and political leader, on the theme, “Jus Novum: Redefining Excellence.”
Eseigbe challenged law students to understand that true excellence extends beyond academic grades and professional qualifications, stressing the importance of integrity, competence, innovation, leadership and service to humanity. He urged the students to develop themselves into lawyers capable of applying legal knowledge to real societal challenges, noting that every case involves human beings whose circumstances require both professional competence and empathy.
The legal practitioner also highlighted the changing nature of the legal profession in the digital age, urging aspiring lawyers to embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, electronic filing, digital evidence and advanced legal research tools. He, however, cautioned that technological advancement must be matched with sound judgment, professional independence and ethical responsibility. According to him, young lawyers must master technology without allowing it to compromise their conscience or professional values.
The lecture was further marked by the presentation of an Award of Recognition to Sir Lucky Eseigbe by LAWSAN AAU in appreciation of his contributions to the student community and society. He urged the students to reject mediocrity, corruption and injustice while embracing leadership, civic participation and community service. He emphasised that the future of the Nigerian legal profession depends on a generation that combines intellectual excellence with character, technological competence with sound judgment, and professional success with meaningful service to society.
